Review | Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter

Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat is one of those products that lots of people talk about, but not everyone seems to fully understand. First of all, it’s important to understand that Touche Eclat is a highlighter, not a concealer. Most people who buy it thinking it’s a concealer end up disappointed with it, and with good reason: this is not the product to use if you’re looking to cover blemishes.

I happen to think Touche Eclat is a great product if used properly – as a highlighter – however. Here’s my quick Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat review, to tell you why…

How It Works:

Touche Eclat is a highlighter, not a concealer, and it works by reflecting light away from your face. Or something. The idea is that dark circles look lighter, blemishes look less obvious, and the skin in general looks youthful and, indeed, radiant. Well, it is called Radiant Touch after all.

Packaging:

As you can see from the picture above, like most YSL products, it comes in a glamorous gold tube – timeless and expensive looking, if a little unadventurous. 8/10

Application:

It looks like a pen, and, in fact, works like a pen too, which is handy, really. Uncap it, press the trigger at the end a few times until the brush fills with liquid, and then dab it on, blending with your fingertips. Easy, and pretty much foolproof. 9/10

Performance:

This is definitely one of the best products I’ve used for under eye circles, of which I have many. It’s very light, and is absorbed easily – something that’s very important under the eyes because anything too thick will just settle in your wrinkles (Assuming, of course that you have any) and make them look more obvious. Where Touche Eclat falls down is when you try to use in on spots or blemishes – in fact, I’ve always kept it solely for the dark circles and used a concealer for blemishes. The liquid just isn’t thick enough to cover spots and, indeed, it’s not really supposed to: always remember that this is a highlighter, not a concealer.

Touche Eclat can also cause problems if you choose to be photographed wearing it. So well does it refract light that it’ll bounce that flash right back at the photographer, leaving you looking like a reverse negative, with two huge white blocks under the eyes. Nice.

9/10 for under-eye circles, 5/10 for spots and blemishes

Verdict:

I’ve tried cheaper alternatives (The Body Shop does one, as does Boots No. 7) but Touche Eclat has yet to be equalled for me: and, on the plus side, it may be expensive, but it DOES last a really long time, so it might be a better investment than a cheaper product which has to be more frequently replaced.
