Review | Lancome L’Extreme waterproof mascara
Well folks, it’s been a long hard slog, and I have to confess there were times when I almost gave up the fight, but at last – at long, long last – I have found my holy grail mascara, and if they ever stop making it? I will surely die. What follows, then, is a highly biased, totally glowing review of Lancome’sLancome L’extreme Waterproof Mascara . You have been warned.
Name: Lancome L’extreme waterproof in ‘noir’. Note: the fact that this is the waterproof version of L’extreme is very important, as you’ll find out later. What it does: Lengthens and curls your lashes, giving a false lash’ effect. And boy, does it give a false lash effect…
Packaging: It’s the standard Lancome black and gold tube, and this one is both fat and curvy, just the way I like ‘em.
Application: Goes on easily with a narrow brush, which makes it really easy to get good coverage on the lashes. Personally I hate thick mascara wands, and always find the nice, narrow ones give a much more dramatic finish, letting you get right to the ends of the lashes and right to the edge of the eye. When you have lashes as fair as mine, that’s important, trust me.
Performance: Well, it does exactly what it says on the tin, and I mean EXACTLY. I always curl my eyelashes before using mascara, and L’extreme not only lengthens the lashes to false-eyelash proportions, it also holds the curl, giving a real doll-like effect. Very dramatic (perhaps too dramatic for those of you who like the natural look – when I say it looks like I’m wearing falsies when I use this, I’m really not joking), and very, very fabulous – no wonder it’s called L’extreme.
***IMPORTANT*** : For me, that false-lash effect was only achieved with the waterproof version of L’extreme. When I tried using the "normal" version, although it did lengthen my lashes quite impressively, it dragged the curl from my heated eyelash curlers right out, meaning that my lashes lost that dramatic effect I’d been getting with the waterproof version. I’m not sure why this is – I’m assuming it’s because of whatever it is Lancome do to the formula to make it waterproof – but although the non-waterproof version is a nice mascara, it’s not nearly as… well, extreme.
Removal: I’m not going to lie to you: because it’s waterproof (and it really is waterproof, by the way), this stuff won’t come off easily without an eye-makeup remover. It’s totally worth the extra cost, though. Price: $24 from StrawberryNET Cosmetics (who ship all over the world. Price includes shipping)
Worth it: Well, given that this is hands-down the best mascara I’ve ever used, I’d say so, yes.
Marks out of ten: Why, 10, of course!
