Review | NARS Orgasm – the Holy Grail of blush!

Nars_orgasm Since I was just asking about your Holy Grail Beauty Products, I thought it was only fair to tell you about one of mine, namely NARS Orgasm blush – a product I’ve only being using for a few weeks, but which I already can’t live without.

Now, everyone knows that NARS Orgasm is a popular blusher. It’s one of the most talked-about products I know, and so many beauty lovers swear by it that you’re probably wondering what took me so long? Good question…

Here’s the thing about me and blusher: it’s never been top of my lust-after list. You see, as difficult as it can be for me to find things like lipstick or foundation to match my skin tone, I’ve never had the same problem with blush. In fact, I’ve never had a problem with blush at all: I’ve been more or less happy with all of the brands I’ve tried, and so as far as I was concerned, there was nothing very exciting for me to find out about blush. I mean, it just gives you a bit of extra colour, right?

Wrong.

Well, actually, it’s sort of right. Blush does, indeed, give you a bit of extra colour, and helps people like me not look like vampires, but the right blush can do so much more than that, and this is the secret NARS Orgasm has taught me.

Why is NARS Orgasm different?

‘Orgasm’ is a peachy-pink powder blush with a slight shimmer to it which comes in a sleek black case. Why is it different from all the other powder blush compacts out there? Well, the clue is in the name: it’s called ‘Orgasm’ because the colour is supposed to give you that sexy, just-got-laid flush to the cheeks, and it’s supposed to do this no matter what your skin tone, working on every complexion.

Now, I’d be willing to bet this just isn’t true. In fact, as soon as this review has been posted I suspect someone will come along to comment that NARS Orgasm just didn’t live up to the hype for them, didn’t work with their particular complexion, or just plain didn’t suit them.

But it worked for me (and, of course, that’s the main thing, right? :) )

Does it work?

I’ll be honest, I really didn’t expect to like this nearly as much as I did. I thought it would be just another run-of-the-mill blush, and that I’d like it fine, but probably wouldn’t rush out and buy it again. Instead, I loved it. Why? Because, for me, it did exactly what it claims to: the colour is so natural it really does look like your own flush, rather than cosmetics – in fact, as soon as I tried it, and saw how very natural it looked, I realised that the colours of blush I’d been wearing before were just all wrong. Not horrendously so, of course – I’d been happy enough with them up until that point – but definitely not a touch on NARS Orgasm.

Most other blushers I’ve used have given some colour to my pallid cheeks, but ‘Orgasm’ does more than that, and somehow seems to lift my whole face. It’s an instant pick-me-up, and I’ve never thought of blush that way before, so this was a revelation to me.

In terms of application, consistency etc, you’ll find it much the same as other powder blushers. I like the fact that it comes as a cake rather than a loose powder – it makes it easier to avoid overloading your blush, which is always a good thing.

Overall, I’m a new convert, and am already planning on trying out The Multiple, and being tempted by the Lip Gloss and Nail Polish Set. Oh, and naming it a Holy Grail product, of course…

It’s a pity that the Nars Orgasm didn’t do anything for me. Gave me a tad too much shimmer which I didn’t really like. Oh well :)
