No, this isn't further evidence of my boundless love for Benefit Cosmetics, it's just the first of the mascaras from my Sephora Lash Stash, getting a bit of a workout. And how does it fare?

Well, first of all, I have to say I love the Lash Stash. Although the mascaras themselves are, indeed, mini, the wands are full-sized, so you get a proper idea of what the mascara is really like. As for what this one is like, well, let's test it against the Dollface Mascara Manifesto. First of all, though, here's what Benefit have to say about it:

"Sexy, sultry, pure unadulterated black mascara for full, voluminous lashes. It's as BAD as you want to

For what I have to say about it, take a look under the jump!

Nope, but then it doesn't claim to be. This is a mascara that's all about volume and thickness, and I'd say it scores pretty highly on both of those counts, although I needed quite a few coats to really make a difference.

Non-flaky, non-clumpy, non-runny?

Check. Check. Check.

Easy to use?

Well, the brush is thicker than I like, and I found that made it hard to get right to the base of my lashes and into the corners of the eye. Could just be because I'm used to slimmer mascara wands, though.

Able to lock in a curl?

Not really, although it does better than some, and after a few coats, my lashes were turning up at the ends slightly.

No, but it hasn't rubbed off or run, so no worries there.

Overall: 7/10. Not bad, but not the best mascara I've ever used either, although I'm bearing in mind that it's not actually designed to do some of the things on my criteria (i.e. lengthen)

BUY: Benefit BADGal Lash Mascara, $19

  1. Have you thought about only coating one eye with mascara in question? That way we can see the before and after to see the true difference.

  2. I suspect that like me, Amber has pale lashes, so there might not be much to see on an uncoated eye?
Always found that BadGal dried a little bit tacky on me, which I never really liked. As you say it does amazing things for volume!

  3. Haha, yeah, my eyelashes in their natural state are more or less translucent, which means that ANY mascara at all looks like it’s made an amazing difference! I do dye them, though, so will try and do that at the weekend, then I can try showing mascaras on one eye. In the meantime there’s a “before” shot on this post, for comparison purposes:

  4. Badgirl used to be my favorite “dress-up” mascara until I read about your love for the Lancome mascara and I tried that. I definitely prefer the Lancome. The bad girl makes my lashes feel heavy and feel clumped up, which is why I only used it when I wanted to look made up. Like you say, the Lancome mascara seems to do it all, but not overdone way. I use it as an every day mascara now.
