No, I haven't been even more absent-minded than usual and only mascara'd one eye – I'm just taking Katherine's suggestion to show you one eye made up and one au natural, so that you can see the difference the mascara actually makes. Which in this case is… not a lot, really.

In the picture above, I'm wearing Stila Multi-Effect Mascara on my right eye, while the left is bare, but curled. Now, I don't know about you, but I actually prefer the eye without the mascara: as you can see, once the mascara went on, the curl dropped right out and the lashes looked shorter and clumpier. Which is SO not the look I was hoping for.

This mascara has a lot to live up to, though. Here's what Stila has to say about it:

"Multi-effect mascara is a true multi-tasker. It does the job of three formulas by volumizing, lengthening, and curling with just the right amount of building power! Experience this ultimate mascara – and make a lash-ing impression."

Volumizing, lengthening AND curling? It sounds like everyone's dream mascara, then, but sadly it just didn't live up to its name for me, and I'm not seeing much in the way of any of those claims. On the plus side, I did really like the brush: it was easy to use and didn't require too many coats: it also doesn't flake or run. But it doesn't really lengthen, volumize or curl either, sadly, so unfortunately Stila Multi-Effect Mascara fails in its bid to be the winner of the MASCARA WARS, and Lancome L'Extreme can sleep easy tonight…

BUY: Stila Multi-Effect Mascara, £20

  1. Gemma, I really recommend it – I do it myself now, and it makes SUCH a difference. I literally look like I don’t have any eyelashes at all when they’re not tinted!
