Review :GOSH Intense Lashes Lengthening Waterproof Mascara

I’ve had this mascara in my “to be reviewed” pile for ages now, but somehow haven’t gotten around to it: I think my extreme fussiness with mascara probably has something to do with it. This week, however, I decided to give it a go, so let me introduce you all to GOSH Intense Lashes Lengthening Waterproof Mascara, which is £8 at Superdrug, and has a long, thin(ish) wand:

At first, I didn’t think this was going to be easy to apply: there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of product on the wand, and repeated pumping of it just seemed to add mascara to the tip. I pressed ahead anyway, though, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was much easier to apply than I’d anticipated: coverage was good, and the brush is a decent shape for getting right to the roots of the lashes and into the corners.

Here’s what it looks like on:

As you can see, there’s some clumping on the right eye, which was the result of my over-enthusiastic application: I can never seem to resist adding just onemorecoat, and this particular mascara looks better with just one or two.

What I did like was the upwards “flick” it gave to my lashes. This is advertised as a lengthening mascara, not a curling one, but the reason I like waterproof mascara so much is that if you curl your lashes before using them (as I did here), they’ll tend to hold the curl in place, whereas non-waterproof formulas have a tendency to drag it out. This doesn’t have the best holding power I’ve ever seen, but it’s not bad, either.

As far as lengthening goes, it was… average. I didn’t really notice much of a difference, to be honest (I didn’t take a “before” shot because I really need a top-up of my eyelash dye, and without it you can’t really see my lashes anyway, and the extreme comparison between almost-invisible lashes and ones with mascara will make just about ANY mascara look good…), and I think most of the “lengthening” effect here comes from the fact that this mascara is reasonably good at holding the lashes upright, which makes them look longer.

I haven’t really given the waterproof abilities of this product a proper test, not having worn it in either pouring rain or, er, floods of tears, but it hasn’t smudged or budged at all, so I’m happy: I wear waterproof mascara because of its ability to hold a curl, not because of its ability to resist water!

Overall: Good, but not a showstopper: I’d prefer to spend the extra on Lancome Hypnose, but I’m sure that goes without saying to my regular readers…

Hi Dollface, have you tried the Boots No 7 Curling Mascara? It’s really good!

    Hi Dollface.

I just wanted to say, firstly, thank you so much for introducing me to Gosh makeup – I love it, I’ve got their eyebrow kit & gel and use them everyday now. Secondly, have you seen Asdas own range of makeup by George? I only saw it the other day and me and a friend went a bit nuts. They’ve got some seemingly good products at really good prices. I thought you might like to know about as I think your like me and like a good bargain? I think the best thing I saw was Cheeky Tint in Pink Blossom for £2.50 and it looks fab. Not sure what the rules are here with me talking about Asda so much but I just wanted you to know in case you wanted to do some reviews on another new “bargain brand”, or you know, just go nuts like I did and buy loads of it :)

      Hello!

I have used some of Asda’s own brand eyeliners in the past, but haven’t seen the George range. Will definitely check it out next time I’m there, though, thanks for the heads up :)
