New Year beauty resolutions

Happy New Year, everyone!

I took a bit of a break over the holiday period, but am hoping to get back into the swing of things again now we’re into the new year, and I thought I’d start off with an appropriately New Year themed post!

I’ve said a few times on my other blogs that I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, and that’s still true for 2013 – in general terms, anyway. This year I do have a few beauty-related aims I’m hoping to meet, namely:

1. Use up all of the beauty products lurking in the cupboards

I don’t know about you, but over the past few years, I seem to have accumulated an absolute TON of products which haven’t been used, and are just gathering dust in the bathroom cabinet. I had a big clear-out just before Christmas and got rid of everything that was out of date or otherwise past its best, but that still left me with a fairly impressive collection of half-used body lotions and creams. I seem to use up most of the other types of products I buy, but for some reason I always forget about those lotions, so they’ve been slowly breeding in the back of the cupboard. This year I’ve banned myself from buying any more until I’ve used up what I have – I suspect it might take a while, but at least I should have soft skin at the end of it, if nothing else!

2. And that bottle of hand cream on the bathroom sink

It gets a special mention because it’s been sitting out on display for so long now I’ve stopped even noticing it. I’m not good at remembering to use body lotion, but I’m even worse at remembering to use hand cream because I spend a large part of my day typing, and I’m too impatient to wait for it to soak in properly before I can get back to work. This makes for dry skin on the hands… and a bottle of almost-full hand cream on the sink. This year it will be used up! Probably. Speaking of hands…

3. Get my nails into better shape

I don’t do manual labour, and spend my days indoors staring at a computer screen. You wouldn’t necessarily know that by the state of my fingernails, though. I have very dry cuticles, which grow super-fast, and always look ragged and ugly. My nails, meanwhile, are strong, healthy, and grow quickly. That’s totally wasted on me, though, because I hate the feel of long nails, so I keep them as short as possible. Because they grow so fast, I have to trim them every couple of days: I don’t have the time or patience (this is a common theme with me, as you can probably tell) to do a “proper” manicure that often, so I normally just clip the ends off and file them as best I can. “As best I can” often translates as “not very well”, unfortunately, and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been out and about somewhere and have glanced at my hands only to recoil in horror at the sight of my nails. I don’t wear nail polish very often, purely because it just draws attention to my nasty cuticles and ragged nails, but I’d like to start, so this year I’ll be making the effort to get them into better shape, and keep them that way. Or that’s the plan, anyway.

4. Take better care of my feet

I’m not going to go into this too much, because although I love shoes, I’m not keen on feet AT ALL, but to put it simply: I run. Running doesn’t always leave you with pretty, soft feet. I like wearing peep toes and sandals. You get the picture…

So, just four resolutions: should be totally do-able, right? Let’s just see how I get on…

What are your beauty resolutions for 2013?

  1. So similar!
    1) I just sorted out all the body lotions and butters, I have challenged myself to use them all by next Christmas!
    2) To keep my nails nice, they grow nicely but I don’t like them long, same as you! I’m too impatient to wait for nail polish to dry properly but I must persevere!
    3) To use hand lotion and foot lotion
    4) To book haircuts and eyebrow waxes in advance so I don’t get to that desperate stage
    5) To not go to bed in makeup (if only for the pillowcase’s sake)

My wonderful friend has purchased me a 3 month glossy box subscription I’m so excited about that!

    Happy New Year 🙂
