After the boys of summer have gone

I know everyone’s been enthusiastically throwing themselves into autumn for weeks now, but I’ve been determinedly clinging onto summer for as long as is humanly possible. As I said in one of my other rambles, between the house move and… well, the house move, basically… I kinda feel like I missed it this year: when I unpacked all of my clothes at the new place and saw all of those sad summer dresses hanging there, all forlorn, I realised that I’d hardly worn any of them, despite it being one of the nicer summers we’ve had in a while here: d’oh!

Even I know when I’m beat, though, and although we’re still getting the odd warm day here and there, most of this week has been characterised by the rain lashing against the window, so OK, autumn, I get it: you’re here. YOU WIN. Hey, posts about the weather are FASCINATING, aren’t they?

I may not be exactly embracing the new season, then, but it DOES feel a bit like a fresh start – this year more than ever, for the obvious reason that we’re in a totally different place now. This is the time of year I’d normally be starting to think about switching my wardrobe over and packing away the summer stuff, but thanks to my new dressing room (yay!), I don’t have to do that this year, so instead I’m mostly focusing on trying to get back into some kind of routine. The past few weeks have been all kinds of crazy: I’ve only just started to get back into running/doing ANY kind of exercise at all after a long (looooong) break, and outfit photos have been really hit and miss, hence the crappy indoor shot below, but, you know, we’ll get there. Eventually.

And hey: it’s only, what, eight months until Spring? Not that I’m counting…

    Oh I love those shoes.
I was looking for a pair of shoes under the bed yesterday and came across about twenty pairs of summery shoes and wedges which I remember looking at earlier in the year and thinking “I’ll wear those when it’s summer” and I just haven’t. I feel as though it’s passed me by as well.

Ha, I just wish if a season was going to pass me by, it could be winter!

I am going to go into grad school in ten days, and if I could take a pass on that I swear I would….how about we get to Christmas break, when we can all wear shiny things?

UGH, yes, autumn is here. I don’t mint autumn so much but the abrupt shift from lovely weather to constant rain is horrible. And I don’t care about the special Starbucks coffee flavours either, so that’s all a bit lost on me. You look lovely as ever here – your shoe wall is seriously a thing of beauty! And the title of this post made me laugh. I’ve always liked that song, but much more so since my youngest sister told me a few years ago why she liked it. She said she thought it was a really good song about sexual experimentation. So I was like, WUT? and she explained that the male singer was taking the summer out to experiment with boys, but that he’d still love his girlfriend after his summer of boy on boy love was over. And hey – maybe it IS about that?!

I actually read your post about September last night, but it was late and I couldn’t seem to make my brain work well enough to formulate a comment… I do think it’s always a tricky month, for one reason or another. I actually just really hate these “in-between” kind of seasons: I never seem to know where I am with them!

As for the song, lol! I have to admit, I’ve never thought of it quite *that* way – I always just assumed it was some kind of reference to the Dylan Thomas poem, but I think I maybe prefer this interpretation :D

If it weren’t so hot and humid where I live in the summertime, I probably wouldn’t be anxiously awaiting fall so much. I dislike the humidity, maybe as much as you dislike the snow. Well, maybe not that much, but I really, really don’t like hot AND humid days!:-) And I hear it is even worse than where I live further south…

I actually liked summer this year, well the beginning of it anyway. Then it got to hot here and I just couldn’t function. However I am completely jealous of your dressing room. It sounds wonderful.

Those shoes are so fun! I hope a nice day happens so you can get one or two more summer dresses out one more time :)
