Amber & Terry’s Day Off

Over the weekend, we started to hear strange and almost certainly untrue rumours that the weather this week might be “quite nice”.  We didn’t dare believe it, obviously, but,  just in case, I cancelled my important “Sunday-afternoon-lazing-around-the-house” plans, and did some work instead, so that if the “quite nice” weather DID materialize (and, I mean, AS IF…) I’d be ready for it.

Well, as you’ve probably deduced from the fact that these photos feature me on a sunny beach, as opposed to the usual rainy road, the weather actually managed to exceed our expectations and be REALLY nice rather than just quite nice, so Terry and I decided to have ourselves a day off. “It’ll be like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” I said excitedly, as I filled my handbag with SPF100, and a bunch of hair elastics to attempt keep my fringe under control during our planned drive down the coast (having the wind in your hair is only a good idea if you’re not planning on having your photo  taken afterwards, it turns out, which is why my hair looks like a haystack in most of these photos…), “only without the Ferrari, the parade, and all the other stuff that happens in that movie!” And you know what? It totally was. Well, kind of.

We started off in Edinburgh, at Portobello Beach, where is where the photos above were taken, and also where I spotted three crab legs in the space of two minutes. (Context: my crippling fear of crustaceans…) “Just imagine how many of them must be out there if there are three of them in the space of a few metres,” I shrieked as I headed back to the safety of the promenade. “Oh, THOUSANDS!” replied Terry, helpfully. And that’s why there are no photos of me on the sand here, because SERIOUSLY.

After that we headed back to the car and meandered down the east coast, stopping off to admire the views on the way…

North Berwick – and most of East Lothian, actually – would definitely be one of those “happy places” I was rambling on about in my last post. It’s featured on this blog many times now, and is one of those places I always go back to, and instantly feel at home in when I arrive. It was particularly nice to see it on such a beautiful summer’s day, and we both felt like we were on holiday, for a few hours at least.

If we can just have a few more days like this, I’ll be a happy woman indeed. Although I could probably do without the crab legs next time…

P.S. I really hate doing this, and I promise I won’t keep going on about it, but this week I found out I’ve been nominated for an ASOS Fashion Finder award, and I’d really, really appreciate your vote, if you have a spare few seconds. You do have to be registered with the site to vote (sorry!), but if you’re already a member, all you have to do is click the little heart under my photo, and you will earn my unending gratitude, and also a cookie.* Thanks in advance!
