bump shot at 16 weeks pregnant

pregnancy style: 16 weeks

When I realised I was going to be pregnant in summer, I was pretty relieved – well, right up until the point when I realised I wasn’t going to be able to fit into any of my favourite summer dresses, anyway.

I know a lot of people would say summer is the worst possible time to be pregnant, but luckily for me (Or not-so-luckily, depending on your point of view…), Scotland doesn’t tend to get hot enough for it to be uncomfortable (Or, you know, warm…) most of the time, and I figured it would be a whole lot easier/more comfortable to just be able to throw on a skirt or dress every day, rather than struggling into the dreaded tights, or having to think about layers, etc. Because you all know how I feel about tights and layers, right?

So far, I think I was right about that: I’ve more or less been living in stretchy dresses and skirts, like this one from the Topshop maternity range, which has been on constant rotation since it arrived. The thing I like about skirts like this one is that, as well as being comfortable, the figure-hugging shape also makes it a bit more obvious that the bump is a baby, and not just all those Chinese takeaways I can’t seem to stop thinking about. I know that probably sounds really shallow of me to even care, but, well, last week someone greeted me with the words, “Wow, you’re getting really FAT now, aren’t you?!” so… yeah.

(The person in question did know I was pregnant, so I’m hoping it was just a poor choice of words, but the expression on Terry’s face was absolutely priceless!)

Of course, I’m still only 16 weeks right now (And feel like I’ve been stuck at this stage forever, basically…), so I’m REALLY not looking forward to the last few months, when boots and tights will become a necessity, but for now I’m enjoying the sunshine while I can – and keeping everything crossed that there’s a little bit more of it in store!

  1. People are twats aren’t they. Skirt looks lovely and really comfortable. I’m not pregnant but recently bought a pair of slouchy jersey trousers from Next, just for the house mind. God they so comfy. If I could get away with wearing them outside I would but they’re a bit MC Hammer.

  2. It’s good that you’re not going to be in the third trimester in the summer, because that really is horrible when you’re hot and sweaty and carrying what feels like a heavy load so you’re exhausted all the time. And your not going to be pregnant during the coldest months of the year (Jan-March) well they seem like it to me. I think you’ve timed it just right.

  3. People seem unable to engage their brain before they open their mouth. You don’t look fat, you look pregnant.

Also I wouldn’t worry about tights and layers as you may find your body temperature rises the further along you get. I am quite cold naturally but in both pregnancies (Christmas baby and October baby) I was sweating towards the end. I had my own little internal radiator ☺️

  4. I might just have to go buy this skirt after seeing your pics in it! I love it, its so adorable. I am at this awkward stage where I definitely look pregnant, but most people who don’t know must be assuming I ate a giant cheeseburger for lunch!
