I’ve called this post my Top Ten Retro dresses but, well, it isn’t really. I mean, the retro dresses part is true – as most of you know by now, I’m just a little bit obsessed with shopping for retro dresses online, and, as a result of that, I have more than my fair share of them. (There’s always room for more, though, amiright?) With so many amazing retro style dresses to choose from, though, how ON EARTH could I possibly whittle it down to just ten? Or rank them in order? It wouldn’t be fair on the dresses, and it wouldn’t be fair on me, either, really, so let’s just say these are my favourite retro dresses for now.
In fact, you know how people keep using that #lifegoals hashtag all the time? Like, they see something they like online, and they’re all #GOALS? These dresses are my #goals. Er, that makes me sound really shallow, doesn’t it? Obviously I ALSO want to cure cancer and bring about world peace, but there’s no reason why I can’t do that AND be, like, REALLY well dressed, is there? Exactly. So here are my favourite retro-inspired dresses of the moment…
Top Ten Retro Dresses
This dress, people. THIS DRESS. You would not believe the strength of will I’ve had to display to stop myself buying this dress. Or the amount of times I’ve added it to my basket, only to remove it again a few minutes later. This is part of a collaboration between PinUp Girl and bloggers Amanda and Katie of Junebugs and Georgia Peaches, and, well, ya gotta support your fellow bloggers, no? I’m totally prepared to take one for the team here, but because I have literally (LITERALLY) no money right now, I’m going to have to hope this is still in stock when I visit the PUG store in LA later this year. I’m planning to ask to be dropped off there on the way from the airport, actually. And if the dress isn’t there, I’m going to come straight back home in a huff.
I have quite a few Hell Bunny dresses on my wish list right now, but this one is right at the top, so I’m going to look away now, in case I buy it by accident. Don’t laugh, it’s happened before…
I’ve wanted this dress for years. YEARS. Once day I will own it, too. Because, like I said, #GOALS.
What is it about cherries that makes them so totally irresistible? No idea. But they are, and I want them. If I ever buy this dress, I promise not to wear it with my cherry shoes*. Or my cherry cardigan. Or my cherry brooch.
(*You all know I would struggle not to wear it with the cherry shoes, right? Thought so.)
I could actually have picked any one of many Lindybop dresses here, but as you know, some of them are real mean girls, and some of them are flibbertigibbets who run off with officers. And now I’ve just achieved my #lifegoal of working the word “flibbertigibbet” into a blog post. This is a good day, indeed.
We’ve met Dorothy here before, but I think we can all agree that Dorothy is delightful enough to want to meet again, yes? Like, if you were on date with Dorothy, you’d definitely call her the next day, wouldn’t you? You wouldn’t even wait a while so she thought you weren’t interested, THAT’S how much you like her. Retro prom dresses may not be the most practical around, but who wants practical all the time?
This dress is so simple it would be easy to overlook it. That would be stupid, though, because it’s awesome.
Also super-simple, also super-awesome. Also, DITA. She’s the queen of retro dresses, and she knows it. She’s also my spirit animal. She probably doesn’t know that, though.
So, this dress is about £500, just before you go getting too excited. Well, this is a WISH list, after all…
This is almost too sweet to be wholesome, as my mum would say. I’ve always thought “wholesome” was over-rated, though, so who really cares?
And there you have it – my top ten retro dresses of the moment. Because ya gotta have #GOALS, people…
